Steven and Janae had been together for six years. They shared the same home, same aspirations for their future, and a very genuine and playful kind of love. So when Steven decided to get down on one knee for his well-planned Seaside proposal (with the support of some good friends local to the area), the natural answer was just "yes".
When I met with these two, the conversation was easy. We chatted over coffee about their wedding, what they wanted, how their style and my style were a perfect fit. And although they decided not to have an engagement session, working with these lovebirds on their wedding day was easygoing, and the results left me without breath.
I decided to work with both film and digital, which allowed me to capture a lot about the joy and easy, breeziness that is their relationship. Oddly, my favorite shot from the day happens to be the one where Janae couldn't take one step further in her gorgeous bridal heels, and without thinking, Steven immediately stopped in his tracks to ensure that she didn't have to. I was at the end of my current roll of film as we ventured toward the reception, and snapped this image as my very last shot. And, though it may not seem that way to others, it was magic. A perfectly genuine shot of a couple that has found a love that has no boundary to what they would to for the other to make certain their lives are as easy and as joyful as they could possibly be. No pretense, no judgement - just a real, real love.
I'm so thrilled to share this day with you. The fun thing, the scary thing, the THING, really, about photography is that it is all very subjective. These are moments that I experienced. Images that tell the story of this day as best as I could. They're moments that I lived and in living them and being present, I am so thankful to be able to tell the story of these two, though it could only brush the surface of how wonderful they are.
As always, I am so thankful to miss Abby for her lending me her beautiful, beautiful eye and making some incredibly gorgeous captures during the ceremony and first dances, and little moments in between. Going through her images truly inspired me - she managed to capture so many moments behind the scenes while I was working elsewhere and her passion for her craft naturally manifested in her photographs. I am so, so thankful for that.
