Before this session, I wasn't convinced that every newborn session at home needs to be photographed with film. This at-home session with some sweet friends of mine did the trick.
I've known Stephen for years -- in fact, the very first class that introduced me to the world of photography (and the dark room, for that matter) was the same one that introduced me to Stephen. 11 years later, here we are, documenting some quiet moments for he, Pam and their beautiful family of five at their brand new home. Given that the pets almost always steal the show, yes, puppies make 5. ;o)
Photographed using both digital and film, I quickly found that the film captures, for whatever reason, dig just a little deeper. They show that certain sense of vulnerability that stems from becoming a parent. That excitement, joy, and tinge of uncertainty. All of those beautiful things I only hope we experience one day for ourselves.
I'd say that gorgeous, soft window light helped a little, too. [insert heart eyes emoji here]!
I could not love these images more and am s o g r a t e f u l to be the eyes for precious friends during beautiful moments like these! Many thanks to these three (five) for opening their doors to me and giving me an inside peek at what "home" is.
Shot with digital and medium format film. Digital: 5D Mark II with 50mm f/1.2 lens. Film: Mamiya 645 Pro TL on Portra 800 film.
